Self-Promotion

The main role of a company’s CEO is to be an ambassador.

As Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, one said, “People connect with people, not with companies”. This is so essential to understand. As the leader of a company, you need to get yourself out there in as many ways as possible.

When you open yourself up to more opportunities, people learn about you, your personality, and as a result, your company and brand. Get out there and join local clubs and organizations from Rotary to Chamber of Commerce groups, speaking engagements, even volunteerism opportunities like United Way boards. Your presence in multiple areas of the community will create awareness of you and your company.

Whenever you get the chance to speak about what you do, take it! There’s no better way for people to learn the ins and outs of your product and its benefits than from your mouth. Be the ambassador of your company!

Don’t worry about appearing pushy or arrogant. The majority of people will not perceive you this way. Think of it this way: if you’re not willing to scream your story from the mountaintops, who will?
